Two former national champions meet this afternoon to determine which team will advance to the 2012 National Championships next month in Philadelphia.

Two-time Olympian John Shuster (Duluth, Minn.) and 2007 U.S. champion Todd Birr (Mankato, Minn.) meet in the A bracket final of the Grand Forks qualifier as the 2012 Men's Nationals Qualifying Round continues this the weekend with five berths to Nationals at four sites up for grabs. An additional Nationals berth is available in Grand Forks as well as four spots to the Challenge Round, Jan. 19-22 in Eau Claire, Wis., where the final teams advancing to Nationals will be determined.

2011 U.S. national champions Pete Fenson (Bemidji, Minn.) and Patti Lank (Lewiston, N.Y.) will lead their teams next week at the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling.

Five berths to the 2012 USA Curling National Championships will be up for grabs this week as the Men's Qualifying Round kicks off at four sites across the U.S.

Curling clubs in Green Bay, Wis.; Seattle; Grand Forks, N.D.; and Laurel, Md., will host the first round of action Thursday through Sunday as 35 teams battle it out for spots in the 2012 Nationals, which will take place Feb. 11-18 at IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, Pa. With three teams already pre-qualified, the final three men's spots - to bring the total to 11 teams - will be awarded at the Men's Challenge Round Jan. 19-22 at the Eau Claire Curling Club in Eau Claire, Wis.

The first seven qualified teams for the 2012 USA Curling National Championships have been confirmed. This year's national championship will take place Feb. 11-18 at IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, Pa. The 2012 Nationals will be the first qualifying event to earn a spot in the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling.

Teams skipped by Craig Brown (Madison, Wis.), Tyler George (Duluth, Minn.), Erika Brown (Oakville, Ontario), Becca Hamilton (McFarland, Wis.), Alexandra Carlson (Wayzata, Minn.) and 2011 national champion Patti Lank (Lewiston, N.Y.) earned berths based on performances on the World Curling Tour. In addition, the Pete Fenson rink out of Bemidji, Minn., qualifies based on the team's participation in the America's Challenge in late January in which USA will play a best-of-five competition against Brazil to earn the final Americas berth at the 2012 World Men's Championship.

Seattle's Brady and Cristin Clark defended their title with a 9-6 win at the 2012 USA Curling Mixed Doubles National Championship final this morning at the Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland, Mass.

The Clarks defeated the host club's team of Jennifer Leichter and her 21-year-old son Alex Leichter (both of Wayland, Mass.) to win their third overall mixed doubles title. They will now represent the U.S. at the 2012 World Mixed Doubles Championship April 23-29 in Erzurum, Turkey.
