USA suffers fourth loss at 2012 Men's World Championship
Team USA's Heath McCormick (Sarnia, Ontario), Bill Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Craig Brown (Madison, Wis.) and Dean Gemmell (Short Hills, N.J.) were out-maneuvered by China's Rui Liu rink in a 7-5 defeat to slip to 1-4 in the 11-game round robin.
USA inputted Brown into the lineup tonight to rest Martin Sather (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) due to Team USA's hectic schedule as they play three draws in a row (tonight's game against China plus tomorrow's 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. draws).
"We asked him to be a fifth for a reason," Stopera said about two-time national champion Brown, who finished fourth at this year's national championships. "We knew he could really play the game, and he can play any position. Having Craig out there is like having one of us out there, he's a solid player. I don't think it hurt us any tonight ... or affected it at all."
