Round robin winding down at Broomstones

January 30, 2013
As the round robin winds down at the 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championships in Wayland, Mass., familiar names are at the top of the standings along with some rookies as the teams push toward this weekend's playoffs at the Broomstones Curling Club.

Wisconsin's Jenna Haag rink earned its fourth straight win to improve to 6-1 in the round robin standings, good for a three-way tie with the defending champs from Minnesota led by Cory Christensen and Miranda Solem's High Performance team, which finished second at the 2012 Junior Nationals. Haag (Milton, Wis.) and teammates Chloe Pahl (Green Bay, Wis.), Grace Gabower (Milton, Wis.), Erin Wallace (Green Bay, Wis.), and Brittany Falk (Poynette, Wis.) outscored Washington's Shelby Sweet rink, 12-4, this morning and then shut out Michigan's Alexis Schroeder, 9-0, tonight. Christensen's rink also earned two wins today. The Minnesota ladies defeated Hannah Ely's New York rink, 10-5, in the noon draw and then outscored Alaska, 13-1, to pick up their sixth win tonight.
