Gold medal games set

February 1, 2013
The women's final will be a rematch of last year while one men's team makes its debut as the gold medal games are now set at the 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championships in Wayland, Mass.

Washington's Jake Vukich (8-3) staged a comeback in the second half of this morning's semifinal to defeat Pennsylvania's Scott Dunnam rink and move on to the team's first gold-medal game appearance at Junior Nationals. Vukich (Seattle) and teammates Evan McAuley (Sammamish, Wash.), Luc Violette (Granite Falls, Wash.) and Nicholas Connolly (Seattle) will face Korey Dropkin's High Performance Team (9-1) in the men's final at 1:30 p.m. ET today.

On the women's side, Miranda Solem's High Performance Team (8-3) earned a last-rock semifinal win over Jenna Haag's Wisconsin rink (8-3) to move on to the final once again. This is the third straight appearance in the final for Solem, 21, and a rematch of last year's gold medal game against Cory Christensen of Minnesota (9-1). This is the last year in juniors for Solem, a dietary student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who will age out of the 21 and under competition.

The women's gold medal game also will take place at 1:30 p.m. To read the complete press release, click on the PDF below.
