American ladies improve to 3-1 at World Seniors

April 17, 2012
Pam Oleinik and the American ladies earned their third win of the 2012 World Senior Curling Championships this afternoon to stay in playoff contention at the TÄrnby Curling Club just outside Copenhagen, Denmark.

Oleinik and teammates Laurie Rahn (Lake Forest, Ill.), Stephanie Martin (Barrington, Ill.) and Julie Denten (Northbrook, Ill.) defeated Denmark's Mai Greulich rink, 9-6, to improve to 3-1 in Group A of the round robin with two games remaining.

"This win puts us in a good position. We have two more games in the round-robin and if we take care of business then maybe we'll be in the playoff hunt," said Joni Cotten, Team USA coach and alternate, who was a member of the 2002 Olympic team as well as Debbie McCormick's 2003 world championship team. "Today's game was a tale of two halves, for sure. We came out really strong in the first four ends, but after the break our opponents, Denmark, put on the gas and made a real match out of things."
