The USCA Athletes' Advisory Council has concluded its election for the USCA Athlete Representative and Alternate to the United States Olympic Committee's Athletes' Advisory Council. The newly-elected Athlete Representative is Pete Fenson, and the Alternate is Maureen Clark.

In this election process, the top vote getter overall becomes the Athlete Representative, and then the highest vote getter of the opposite gender becomes the alternate.

To be eligible to run (and vote) for these positions, athletes had to have competed at the Winter Olympic Games or the Men's/Women's World Curling Championships within the preceding 10 years as measured from the USOC AAC meeting of the Summer Quadrennium (January 2013). Also, no paid employees or consultants of the USCA or USOC were eligible to run or vote in this election.

The Athlete Representative serves as the USCA's voice at the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC)  for curling athletes on various athlete-impact issues.  These issues may include, but are not limited to the following: doping control, financial support for athletes, commercial terms/athlete marketing, and athletes' rights in team selection.  The term of service is four years, commencing January of 2013 and ending in December of 2016.

While being the USOC AAC Representative can afford an athlete with extraordinary opportunity within the Olympic Family - this is not a celebrity position.  It is a position that takes time, thought and energy.  For a Representative to excel he/she must communicate clearly within the USCA and the USOC, think critically about issues, advocate appropriately for our sport's competitive athletes and dedicate the necessary time.

Fenson succeeds Richard Maskel as the Athlete Representative. Clark has also served as the Alternate for the 2010-2013 quadrennium.
